2023-2024 Marketing Trends

The world of digital marketing is always changing and evolving. With new platforms, policies and trends to keep up with; being a digital marketer in 2023 is a position that requires immense flexibility, research, technical skill and savvy.  With all of that in mind, here are some of the most interesting and relative trends from 2023 and moving into 2024 from TradeCraft.

User Privacy

Digital marketers have been lamenting the death of third-party cookies since it was announced they would be phased out by mid-2024. Third-party cookies were the backbone of almost all digital retargeting efforts, but their slow demise has meant that marketers have had to find other ways to track the habits of potential customers.  The end of third-party cookies is primarily an issue of privacy. As users become more computer-savvy, there has been a call to remove some of the most invasive methods of collecting data online. Finding ways to still retarget potential customers, reach audiences and make sure ads are being seen by the right people has become a much more nuanced matter that can involve a myriad of strategies focusing on more context rather than just raw data and ensuring that transparency is key in every online interaction.  User privacy and digital transparency are now key aspects of any digital strategy that doesn’t simply end with having a third-party cookies pop-up on your website.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence is on the minds of every available vertical. While generative AI has been part of many photo editing programs for years, AI is just now starting to reach peak saturation as far as tangible applications to various roles in social media, digital marketing and content creation. AI still has many issues attached to it for most to feel comfortable letting it replace an entire department of copywriters, content creators, social media managers and project managers but the world of AI seems tantalizing and more than a bit confusing for even the savviest professionals. AI certainly has its place in streamlining some processes and tasks, but nothing beats a skilled, dedicated professional in any field.

The Rise of the Micro Influencer

Working with online influencers with millions of followers has been a cornerstone of social media and content strategy for years. As influencers have gained audiences and increased in number, so has the cost of working with them. Micro influencers, influencers with lower follower counts but high engagement are a great alternative to working with mainstream influencers. In addition to micro influencers, many content creators and podcasters are more than willing to work with brands and agencies to produce solid advertising, either native or traditional, that can reach a highly engaged niche audience.
